The declaration of La Pasión de Alozaina, the Feria de la Aceituna (Olive Fair), and Los Zurriagos as Provincial Tourist Interest Festivals enhances the cultural and tourist projection of this municipality. These recognitions join the existing one for the Carnaval de la Harina (Flour Carnival), highlighting the heritage and popular value of its traditions.
“"This declaration does justice to our ancestors; we are now living up to the legacy they left us. And we understand that our job is to maintain and transmit these significant traditions to new generations."
La Pasión de Alozaina, performed annually since 1988, is a cultural and religious manifestation where residents bring a staging to life, transforming the town into a grand stage. This event, which received the Nazareno del Año de Ser Málaga distinction in 2019, is a symbol of intergenerational unity.
The Feria de la Aceituna, for its part, highlights one of Alozaina's most important products: the olive. This festival, held around September 12, combines gastronomy, agricultural identity, and the promotion of local produce, including the tasting of the first seasoned Aloreña olives, which boast a Protected Designation of Origin.
Finally, Los Zurriagos is a unique tradition linked to the Corpus Christi procession. During this celebration, residents crack whips made from rushes collected in streams, with a deep symbolic meaning of warding off demons. This custom, preserved for generations, makes the Corpus procession in Alozaina a unique manifestation in the religious and popular calendar of the province.
