The council of Puerto Serrano has lodged a formal complaint with the Andalusian Ombudsman regarding the "grave situation" of the Post Office service in the town. After multiple attempts to contact the public company, the council states that the current staff, consisting of one director and a single mail carrier, is "clearly insufficient" to serve the entire population.
This lack of personnel is causing "significant delays" in the delivery of essential documentation, including medical appointments, administrative notifications, bills, and official communications. According to the mayor, Daniel Pérez, the situation is generating "numerous complaints" among citizens, whose urgent administrative tasks are being delayed, potentially having "direct consequences on their daily lives".
The City Council demands that Correos take urgent measures to reinforce the staff and fill existing vacancies, thereby ensuring an "adequate and efficient" service that meets the real needs of the population, especially in a rural area where physical documentation remains crucial for many procedures.
The current staffing level not only hinders the normal operation of the postal service but also infringes upon citizens' rights, particularly in rural areas where many procedures still depend on receiving physical documentation.
The Ombudsman's acceptance of the complaint for processing represents an "important step" towards investigating the situation and seeking solutions. Concurrently, the City Council has initiated contact with trade unions to address the issue and explore coordinated actions to demand an "urgent and definitive" resolution.
The mayor reiterated that the Post Office service is a basic public provision and its proper functioning is "fundamental to guaranteeing equal access to public services." He assured that he will continue to undertake all necessary steps until the company reinforces its resources and guarantees adequate attention to all residents.
