The municipality of Grazalema has received a historic injection of almost 64 million euros from the Spanish Government to repair damage caused by recent storms and modernize its infrastructure.

The mayor of Grazalema, Carlos Javier García, along with the district mayor of Benamahoma, Mamen Fernández, announced the receipt of 63,971,086.20 euros. This contribution, described as "historic" and equivalent to twenty years of the municipal budget, will focus on the reconstruction and modernization of public infrastructure to increase resilience against future extreme weather events.
The subsidy is broken down into 61,732,098.18 euros for direct infrastructure investments, 1,638,988.02 euros for support staff, and 600,000.00 euros for specialized technical assistance.
The municipal plan includes 73 priority actions divided into four areas. Urban Roadways will receive the largest portion with 53,200,000 euros for the comprehensive renovation of streets and squares in Grazalema and Benamahoma, with notable interventions in Plaza de los Asomaderos, Calle Nueva, and Calle Real.
Hydraulic Infrastructure and Drainage will be allocated 14,000,000 euros for eight key actions, including a comprehensive sanitation system, improvements to the Presa del Fresnillo, and the drainage network of El Asomadero.
The Municipal Facilities area will have 1,600,000 euros for the rehabilitation of public buildings and facilities such as the library, theater, and the school in Benamahoma. Finally, Public Spaces and Parks will receive 450,000 euros.
Additionally, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food will directly execute the repair of 40 municipal public roads through the public company TRAGSA.
The City Council has formally requested an extension of the execution deadlines to a maximum of six years from the central government, given the project's scale. The mayor thanked the municipal technicians for their work and the "institutional sensitivity and commitment" shown by the Spanish Government.
García clarified that the funds will be used for municipal responsibilities, such as streets and public buildings, and not for livestock trails or roads owned by regional or provincial governments, nor for direct aid to individuals.
The Local Participation Council will be convened to inform about the investment and agree on the execution of the works. The mayor also criticized the "skepticism" and "rumors" from those who doubted the arrival of the funds, which have already been fully deposited in the municipal coffers.
During the emergency period, municipal services managed 1,128 phone calls and 420 WhatsApp messages. 310 people were assisted during the evacuation, and 159 technical expert reports and 39 validations were carried out for direct aid to families.
The Regional Government of Andalusia has also granted a subsidy of 2 million euros for the restoration of the Town Hall and Calle Las Piedras.
