A joint operation between the National Police and the Civil Guard has led to the dismantling of a robbery gang that operated in the province of Seville. The criminals, who used firearms and displayed extreme violence, had been robbing Chinese merchants and businessmen for several months. They are linked to a robbery whose images went viral on social media.
The viral incident occurred in late June in Alcalá de Guadaíra, on the exit from the A-92 highway towards the road to Mairena del Alcor. The hooded robbers blocked the victims' moving vehicle to prevent their escape, then demanded money from those inside. The sequence was recorded by other drivers at the time.
The investigation, initiated at least two months before the viral incident, aimed to apprehend the group terrorizing Chinese merchants. Robberies were reported in May on Gramil street (Store industrial estate) and along the Carretera Amarilla, areas with numerous wholesale establishments run by Chinese citizens. Another Chinese merchant was also robbed in Osuna.
The suspects are also linked to robberies targeting businessmen. One such incident occurred in May in Tomares, where the armed, hooded perpetrators approached the victim and another person in Molino street, stealing an undisclosed sum of money.
Investigation sources have reported the arrest of eight individuals, most with prior criminal records. Among those detained are two brothers previously convicted for their involvement in the kidnapping of a lottery seller in Dos Hermanas.
