This year, the festival, organized by the Hermandad de los Gitanos de Utrera (Brotherhood of the Gitanos of Utrera), will dedicate its tribute to the renowned bullfighter Morante de la Puebla, highlighting his deep connection to flamenco and the city of Utrera itself. This gesture underscores the historical symbiosis between flamenco art and bullfighting, two pillars of the municipality's identity.
The cultural gathering will take place starting at 9:30 PM in the courtyard of the Colegio Salesiano de Utrera, an emblematic venue expected to welcome numerous flamenco enthusiasts from across Spain.
The artistic lineup for this edition features prominent figures in contemporary flamenco. Marina Heredia, Antonio Reyes, and Jesús Méndez will perform as singers (cante). José Maya will showcase flamenco dance (baile). The closing performance will include artists such as Cancanilla de Málaga, Remache de Málaga, Manuela de Moya, Remedios Reyes, and Rocío la Turronera. The event will be presented by Juan Garrido, accompanied by Manolo Viera as the master of ceremonies.

Since its inception in 1957, the Potaje Gitano de Utrera has established itself as a prestigious benchmark among flamenco festivals in Spain. It merges the essence of flamenco with community gathering and traditional gastronomy, offering a night filled with art and emotion.
The festival originated nearly 70 years ago as a communal meal organized by the Hermandad de los Gitanos de Utrera to celebrate the brotherhood's first penitential procession. The main dish, a white bean stew known as “potaje de frijones,” gave the celebration its name. Following the meal, a singing and dancing performance showcased the art and grace characteristic of the Gitano people of Utrera, featuring renowned artists like Fernanda y Bernarda, recipients of the Silver Medal from the Junta de Andalucía.
This family-oriented festival spurred the creation of other flamenco festivals in towns across Andalusia. Throughout its history, the Potaje Gitano has hosted major figures in flamenco singing, guitar playing, and dancing, solidifying its status as an indispensable event on the Andalusian flamenco calendar.
