The fire was reported around 11:30 a.m. this Saturday, July 4. Due to the proximity of the flames, the zoo management decided to close its doors to ensure the safety of visitors while firefighting operations are underway.
The Plan Infoca has deployed a team of 32 professionals to tackle the blaze. The resources on-site include a heavy helicopter, two light amphibious aircraft, and a ground fire engine working to contain the fire.
Emergency services have reported that no road closures have been necessary during the extinction efforts. This incident marks the second forest fire recorded in the municipality this summer, following a previous event on June 9.
