The public broadcaster is thus bringing back local news coverage during the weekend, following the model already established in Catalonia and the Canary Islands. These new half-hour editions coincide with the start of the electoral campaign for the regional elections on May 17.
To accommodate this content expansion, the territorial center in Seville has been transformed into a Production Center, leading to an increase in staff across the eight Andalusian provinces. This change aims to boost local production and provide broader news coverage.
The relaunch of TVE Andalucía as a Production Center marks a new era for the entity, which in the past was a breeding ground for renowned communicators. The original facilities, located in a villa on Seville's Paseo de la Palmera since 1971, saw the birth of Telesur in June 1975, a news program that became a benchmark for modernity.
Over the years, the center has been fundamental in the structuring of Andalucía, overcoming technical limitations to offer pioneering programs on flamenco, bullfighting, and regional sports. The 1980s were particularly significant, with iconic productions such as Mosaico Andaluz and Grada Sur, and the broadcast of the Carnival of Cádiz and Holy Week in Seville for all of Spain. After the milestone of Expo 92 and the relocation to the current facilities on Isla de la Cartuja in 1994, the center solidified its role as a key part of the RTVE machinery.
