The writer, known for his Indira Ramos trilogy and other works, recently published El amo, the second installment in the series featuring a Romani police officer. This novel, which deviates from the traditional enigma by revealing the killer from the outset, seeks to explore the “why and how” of crimes, maintaining narrative tension.
“"I aim for the reader to have a good time, but also to confront moral dilemmas."
During his participation in the Sevilla Black festival, the Madrid-based author stated that, unlike television series where budget is a limiting factor, in literature “we all start on equal terms.” He emphasized that Spanish crime novels are “on par with or above almost everyone” in the international scene.
The main character of his latest series, Jotadé, a Romani police officer who doesn't quite fit in with either the police or his community, has evolved significantly. The author describes an almost symbiotic relationship with his character, who sometimes “takes him to unexpected places” during the writing process.
The writer also highlighted the importance of representing the Romani community in a balanced way, showing both the difficult aspects and positive values such as respect for elders and family unity. This approach aims to offer a complete and nuanced view of his characters and their environments.
