The institution fears that the interruption of the works, following the withdrawal of the joint venture of companies responsible for the contract, will further complicate circulation in the lock area, which is unable to absorb the increasing daily volume of vehicles.
“"The current situation can cause a traffic collapse in Seville, as the Port's lock passage is being used for trucks, and it is a route not designed for that, with queues extending from the Dock to Dos Hermanas. That is not the solution."
The Chamber of Commerce emphasizes that the city cannot afford “great chaos” and stresses the need to complete the bridge expansion works before a new emergency contract is established. Therefore, it urges the Ministry of Transport to call for a new tender as urgently as possible.
The Ministry of Transport has already announced that it is working to re-tender the project. The Chamber of Commerce of Seville insists on the importance of taking swift measures to avoid continuous harm to Sevillian businesses and citizens who use this crucial route to connect with other areas of the city, metropolitan municipalities, and other Andalusian provinces.
The entity concludes that Seville cannot continue to be “held hostage” by this project, which is causing substantial economic losses to the region.
