Málaga CF's youth academy is at a crucial point in the season, competing for two League titles in the U16 and U14 categories of the Andalusian División de Honor. These competitions, recently established to foster competitiveness, have led to an exciting conclusion this weekend.
The U16 team, managed by Carlos Almagro, is currently second with 70 points, just one point behind Sevilla FC (71 points). The victory in the first leg against the Sevillian side (0-1) and the home draw (1-1) give Málaga CF the tie-breaking advantage in case of a points tie. The blanquiazules will face San Roque, who are already safe, while Sevilla will visit Almería, who are fighting to secure their fourth position.
The U16 team stands out as the league's top scorer with 90 goals and has only suffered three defeats. David Conejo is the leading scorer with 22 goals, and several of his players have attracted the attention of other major clubs.
Meanwhile, the U14 team finds itself in a similar situation but with a slight advantage: it leads the standings with 72 points, one more than Sevilla FC (71 points). Both teams will play at the same time against the same opponents. Málaga CF will visit San Roque (seventh), while Sevilla will play against Almería (fourth). Málaga's draw last week against Cádiz allowed Sevilla to close the gap after winning the derby against Betis (4-1).
The head-to-head record favors the Sevillian side, who won 2-1 at home and drew 1-1 at the Ciudad Deportiva. Jonathan Maldonado, with 18 goals, is the top scorer for the U14 team managed by Zamo.
