These prestigious awards, to be presented on April 16 at the Teatro Central in Seville, also recognize Esther Monleón for her work in cultural management, the podcast Drama o qué and the platform La Zentralita in the diffusion category, and the documentary Sembrando sueños by Alfonso Sánchez in the audiovisual field.
Carmen de Giles is a prominent figure in scenic costume design, with a career spanning over four decades and more than 150 productions in theater, dance, and flamenco. She has collaborated with directors such as Salvador Távora and Alfonso Zurro, and choreographers like Rubén Olmo, forging a distinctive style that has earned her multiple accolades, including the Adrià Gual Award for her work in Atalaya's El Rey Lear.
Meanwhile, Juan Ruesga has had an extensive career as a set designer and architect, being fundamental in the evolution of contemporary scenic space in Andalucía. His work includes projects with Esperpento and Teatro del Mediodía, in addition to having directed the Andalusian Theater Center. With over 70 set designs to his name and the creation of numerous theatrical spaces, he has been honored with the Manuel de Falla Award for his impact on the region's performing and musical arts.
In the Lorca Award for Diffusion category, the Academy has decided to grant the award ex aequo, for the first time, to the podcast Drama o qué, led by Javier Berger and David Montero, and to the platform La Zentralita, driven by María Marín, Marina Miranda, and Marta L. Caro. Both projects have proven essential for the dissemination of contemporary dramaturgy and the visibility of the sector, respectively.
The Lorca Award for Cultural Management and Programming recognizes the dedication of Esther Monleón, whose work at the Diputación de Málaga for over 25 years has been crucial for boosting the Andalusian performing arts scene. Her initiatives, such as the Cirkorama Festival and the Andalusian Dramaturgy Tournament, have promoted culture as a space for mediation and critical thinking.
Finally, the Lorca Audiovisual Award has gone to the documentary Sembrando sueños, directed by Alfonso Sánchez and written by Ana Graciani. This work offers a modern perspective on the Álvarez Quintero brothers, re-evaluating their legacy in Spanish dramaturgy from a current and unbiased viewpoint.
The awards ceremony, to be held on April 16, will be hosted by Juanma Martínez and Fran Contreras, founders of Sevilla Impro Club, and will feature technical direction by Emilio Goyanes, a musical performance by Rosario Solano, and the participation of Pepepérez Cuentacuentos.
