The iconic white dress with cutwork and pink embroidery, originally created by Marcelina Fernández and Francisco Montero, founders of Lina Sevilla, has been faithfully replicated by the second generation of the firm, Mila and Rocío Montero. The original design was made in just 24 hours for the princess's visit to the Feria fairgrounds.
Mila and Rocío Montero commented on the princess's impression: "Grace Kelly wore the flamenco dress with surprising naturalness, it seemed like she had worn that dress before." The recreation aimed for historical accuracy, using materials similar to those of the era, such as 80 meters of pink embroidered trim and 20 meters of perforated batiste and organdy.
The original dress, a feat of Spanish couture, will be exhibited in a traveling show that will begin in Monaco and visit Sevilla. The official presentation will take place on June 1st, presided over by the King and Queen of Spain, Felipe and Letizia, along with Princes Albert of Monaco and Charlène.
The greatest artisanal challenge for the Montero sisters was finding materials similar to those from the 1960s, as the original fabrics and embroidered trims are no longer produced. They have retrieved patterns from the firm's historical archive to reproduce the complex internal structure of the design, including the structured "cazuelas" that shaped the silhouette.
