The initiative, titled El Legado Aceitero (The Olive Oil Legacy), premiered at the Carmelita Molina theater in La Roda de Andalucía. This production is conceived as a monologue starring the goddess Athena, who emphasizes the deep connection of the olive tree and olive oil with the history and culture of Andalusia.
The project aims not only to bring olive grove heritage closer to the elderly in the province of Seville but also to encourage their active participation and strengthen their emotional well-being through a shared cultural experience. The play addresses historical, cultural, and nutritional aspects of olive oil and olives throughout history.
“"The project not only contributes to bringing olive grove heritage closer to the elderly in the province of Seville but also promotes their active participation and strengthens their emotional well-being through a shared cultural experience."
The central plot of the play revolves around a unique commission received by the goddess Athena: to prepare the wedding menu for Emperor Charles V of Germany and I of Spain and Isabel of Portugal, an event that will commemorate its 500th anniversary in 2026. At the end of the performance, attendees enjoy a sensory experience that includes a tasting and sampling of various extra virgin olive oil varieties.
Following its successful debut, El Legado Aceitero will continue its tour through the province of Seville. In April, performances are scheduled for the 17th in Guillena and the 22nd in Sanlúcar la Mayor. During May, the play will be presented on the 5th in Marchena, the 19th of May in La Rinconada, and the 27th in Dos Hermanas, thus consolidating its presence and bringing olive grove culture to different localities.
Coinciding with its 15th anniversary, the Juan Ramón Guillén Foundation, recognized for its work in disseminating olive oil culture among young people, is now focusing its efforts on new initiatives for seniors. The goal is to promote active and healthy aging, and to acknowledge their fundamental role as transmitters of olive grove culture and tradition.
