The renowned Sevillian bullfighter Juan Ortega has revealed the two 'trajes de luces' (suits of lights) he will wear at the upcoming Feria de Abril, an unusual initiative that allowed fans to closely admire these pieces at the Plaza de la Maestranza.
In a rare move within the bullfighting world, Juan Ortega, one of the main figures of the 2026 season, decided to share with the public the outfits he will wear for his two scheduled appearances at the Feria de Abril. The presentation took place during an open-door event at Seville's emblematic Plaza de la Maestranza, where attendees could closely examine these creations.
“
"One of my earliest childhood memories places me in this bullring; my father used to bring me, and one of the things that most caught my attention were the bullfighters' suits. I remember getting close, touching them… it's something I've always held dear."
The bullfighter explained that this idea stemmed from his childhood fascination with the 'trajes de luces,' an experience he wished to share with younger generations. For Ortega, bullfighting attire is far more than just clothing; it is a "second skin" that reflects the bullfighter's personality and his respect for tauromachy. "It makes you feel like a bullfighter; the clothing, the tone, makes you feel in tune with what you want to express at every moment," he stated.
Among the suits presented, a "vintage gold" ('oro viejo') stands out, featuring embroidery inspired by an old suit worn by Minuto, adapted with flowers and pineapples. The second is a "pale lilac" ('lila palo') with shell motifs taken from a suit of Manolete, though with a distribution and type of flowers designed by Ortega in collaboration with tailor Santos. Additionally, the bullfighter will debut a "corinto and jet black" ('corinto y azabache') parade cape, a replica of one that belonged to Manolete.
Ortega also mentioned a "pure white and gold" ('purísima y oro') suit that he is saving for the Corpus afternoon, a date he considers "very Sevillian" and significant. The Corpus lineup, which includes Morante, Ortega, and Aguado, has generated great anticipation, described by the bullfighter as "the poster event of Seville" and one of the most exciting for fans.
“
"It is the poster event of Seville… and many places. I try to be objective, but I believe it is fortunate – and I speak as a fan – to live in a time when several bullfighters who are to the liking of Sevillian fans coincide and have generated so much interest."
The Sevillian bullfighter expressed the responsibility he feels as a core figure of the season, valuing the fact that the public expects something from him. He also highlighted the importance of fighting alongside masters like Morante, which brings him "double pleasure." Finally, Ortega emphasized the relevance of these open-door events in bringing bullfighting closer to children and dispelling prejudices, allowing them to "see, feel, and perceive" the essence of bullfighting.
