Jesús Aguirre, the current president of the Parliament of Andalusia, has officially registered his resignation from the post. The resignation will be effective from the upcoming 23rd, the date set for the plenary session to appoint his replacement. Sources from the regional chamber confirm that the resignation, submitted this Tuesday, will take effect when the composition of the Chamber's Board is renewed and Ana Mestre is designated to preside over the legislative body.
Aguirre was appointed president of the Andalusian Parliament in 2022, at the beginning of the XII legislature. He was re-elected on June 11th after the constitution of the new regional chamber, in a provisional setup while the PP and Vox finalized their government agreement. This pact, signed in early July, also included the first vice-presidency of the Parliament for Vox, which meant Mestre would have to cede her seat.
With Aguirre's resignation, Ana Mestre will assume the presidency of the Parliament in the next plenary session, following a new vote. The politician from Cádiz will thus become the fourth president of the regional chamber, succeeding Mar Moreno, Fuensanta Coves (both from the PSOE), and Marta Bosquet (from Ciudadanos).
It is expected that Jesús Aguirre, 71, will be designated as one of the autonomous senators in next week's plenary session. Among those designated will also be the socialist María Jesús Montero.
