This gathering, recognized as one of the most significant scientific events in the field of diabetes in the Spanish language, will bring together approximately 1,200 specialists in Seville. These professionals come from various areas of healthcare and research, solidifying the congress as a reference forum due to its scientific rigor and the participation of international experts.
The local organizing committee is chaired by Dr. María Asunción Martínez Brocca, head of the Endocrinology and Nutrition Service at Hospital Virgen Macarena, who is also a member of the event's scientific committee. The scientific program is structured into three main itineraries: scientific-clinical, clinical-training, and transversal-educational, designed to address the needs of different professional profiles linked to diabetes management.
Key topics include technological advancements applied to diabetes, the integration of artificial intelligence in clinical monitoring, access to therapeutic education and technological resources, as well as early management of type 1 diabetes and the relevance of obesity in type 2 diabetes. The congress will also feature joint sessions with other scientific societies and three keynote lectures delivered by world-renowned specialists.
The Endocrinology and Nutrition Service at Hospital Virgen Macarena is a benchmark in the care of endocrinological, metabolic, and nutritional pathologies. During 2025, the unit managed over 35,000 in-person consultations and conducted nearly 2,000 annual interconsultations for hospitalized patients. With a team of 51 professionals, the service boasts a highly complex Diabetes Unit, which includes endocrinologists, advanced practice professionals, and specialized nursing staff.
Furthermore, the service operates a Diabetes Day Hospital, which facilitates multidisciplinary and continuous care in coordination with Primary Care, performing over 5,000 medical acts annually. In the field of research, the service focuses on technologies applied to the disease, psychoemotional impact, early detection of presymptomatic type 1 diabetes, and intervention studies with new immunomodulatory therapies.
The organizational innovation of the service is highlighted by the consolidation of telematics activity, with significant development in teleconsultation with Primary Care and other hospital services, reaching 4,696 consultations in the last year. It has also promoted new models of therapeutic education in diabetes and obesity, both in-person and digital, integrated into the center's Digital Care Unit.
