The heritage body has endorsed the conservation plan for the Corpus Christi Canopy, developed by the Andalusian Institute of Historical Heritage at the request of the Cathedral Chapter. This project includes intervention planning, necessary resources, and a subsequent maintenance program to ensure the piece's longevity.
Both pieces, the canopy and the tenebrarium, are in poor condition due to their execution technique, continuous use, display system, and storage conditions. The Commission has positively assessed the thoroughness of the diagnosis, intervention criteria, and proposed restoration techniques. Once the work is completed, a detailed explanatory report will be required.
The Canopy, composed of eight pieces of damask and crimson red velvet with rococo motifs, dates back to 1769. It was commissioned by Cardinal Francisco de Solís Folch y Cardona to the embroiderer Felipe Lazari and was used to adorn the high altar until 1992. The Tenebrarium, a large candelabrum made of bronze and other metals, was essential in the “office of shadows” during Holy Week until the Second Vatican Council. It incorporates fifteen figures representing the apostles (except Judas Iscariot), the three Maries, and the Virgin Mary at the center.
In Seville, the Commission has also approved safety and health measures in buildings near the Muro de los Navarros, though requiring an archaeological excavation due to potential impact on the BIC Muralla. Furthermore, it has positively evaluated the creation of an interpretation center for Seville's walled enclosure and the enhancement of the Torre de la Plata and the walls of the Casa de la Moneda, requesting improvements to the project.
Finally, in Osuna, the Provincial Heritage Commission has issued an unfavorable report on the proposal to divide a plot into eight homes, considering that the intervention poses a risk to the urban and architectural structure of the BIC Historic Complex of Osuna. A favorable opinion is contingent on the approval of the Special Protection Plan for the historic complex.
