This Saturday, Seville will become the focus of sports attention with the Copa del Rey final, featuring Atlético de Madrid and Real Sociedad at 9:00 PM at the La Cartuja Stadium. This event, combined with the upcoming Feria de Abril, will lead to a day of high attendance and traffic restrictions in various parts of the city.
La Cartuja Island will be the most affected area. The Seville City Council has implemented a special mobility and security plan, including progressive road closures. From 3:00 PM, the Cartuja Technology Park and Carlos III Avenue will be closed to traffic, and by 7:00 PM, stadium access will be completely restricted. It is advisable for those not attending the match to avoid this area from mid-morning onwards.
Seville's city center will also see a significant increase in activity. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has organized a Fan Experience at Las Setas, Muelle de la Sal, and Jardines de Cristina, featuring DJs, 3x3 football pitches, and foosball. Additionally, the trophy exhibition at San Telmo will be open on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, attracting many visitors.
Another sensitive point will be the Calatrava-Alameda-Trajano axis. The ADAHE association has urged the City Council to implement preventive measures to avoid issues like street drinking, litter, and noise, which have occurred during previous finals. While no closures are expected, this area could become uncomfortable due to fan concentrations before and after the match.
Real Sociedad fans will hold a kalejira (parade) starting at 6:30 PM from their fan zone on Carlos III Avenue, near the La Cartuja stop, proceeding along Marie Curie and Leonardo Da Vinci to the stadium vicinity. This event, coupled with the stadium gates opening at 6:00 PM, will make the period between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM the most challenging for navigating around La Cartuja.
The overlap with the pre-fair activities in Los Remedios adds another layer of complexity. With booth construction and truck movements, the area already experiences increased activity and traffic jams. The combination of football-related traffic and fair-related traffic could create a particularly uncomfortable situation in areas like Tablada and the fairground accesses.
Public transport is presented as the best alternative. The City Council will reinforce lines C1, C2, and 2 serving La Cartuja, as well as the C-2 Cercanías line with a stop at the Olympic Stadium. However, a partial strike by Tussam from 7:30 PM to 8:00 PM could affect services, although the workers' committee does not support it. It is advised to avoid car travel and opt for public transport, especially outside the peak hours before the match.
