The city of Chiclana is commemorating the 150th anniversary of its city title with an exhibition inaugurated by the mayor, José María Román. The exhibition, organized by the ODA Philatelic Association, will be open to the public until August 25th, the date the Royal Decree of 1876 granting this title was published.
The exhibition features 17 philatelic collections and other period items, contributed by ODA members and collectors from nearby towns such as San Fernando, Cádiz, and Jerez. Visitors can find stamps from the late 19th century, labels from old Chiclana wineries, and photographs showing the city's evolution over time. The municipality's wine-making potential was key to the city title's concession.
During the inauguration, Mayor José María Román thanked ODA for their work and expressed his conviction in the growth of quality of life. For his part, ODA's vice president, Miguel González, thanked the City Council for providing the facilities and recognizing collectors. The city chronicler, José Luis Aragón Panés, highlighted that the exhibition covers the Restoration period in Spain and Chiclana.
As part of the commemoration, on August 25th, the exhibition's final day, Correos (the postal service) will issue a special commemorative postmark to be used at the municipality's post office, ensuring all correspondence leaving Chiclana bears this mark.
