The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has warned of a drastic shift in weather conditions, moving from recent winter cold to a rapid temperature surge. Much of the country is expected to experience sunny days with highs above 30°C.
According to Aemet spokesperson Ruben del Campo, many parts of Spain could see temperatures between 5°C and 10°C higher than usual for this time of year. Highs of 34°C are anticipated across large areas of the northeast, centre, and south of the Iberian peninsula.
The heat will gradually build from Monday, with Friday expected to be the hottest day of the spell. Seville is poised, as is typical, to be the epicentre of the heat, with forecasts of up to 38°C by the end of the week.
Other cities such as Badajoz, Toledo, Zaragoza, and Lleida could reach 36°C, while Cordoba and Jaen are expected to register 35°C. Madrid will be around 34°C, and Granada, Valladolid, and Huelva will hover near 33°C. Night-time minimum temperatures are also set to rise, staying above 20°C in much of the south.
Skies are expected to remain clear with no rain forecast, allowing people to enjoy the sunshine throughout the week.
