The Seville City Council, through its Consumer Service, will activate a special veterinary inspection operation during the April Fair of 2026 to guarantee food safety and protect public health.

This operation, integrated into the CECOP health device, will have veterinary personnel available throughout the celebration to address any alerts or incidents. The initiative aims to reinforce ordinary controls during a period of high public attendance, such as the April Fair.

"This device allows us to strengthen prevention, surveillance, and response capacity to any food incident during a week of maximum activity at the fairgrounds. We are talking about a coordinated operation, prepared to act quickly with the primary objective of protecting public health and offering maximum guarantees to Sevillians and visitors."

The plan includes preventive controls at the entrance of goods to the fairgrounds, with the support of Security Forces and Corps, including the Local Police and SEPRONA. These controls will take place in the morning and afternoon during the weekend and the Monday before the fair, from April 18 to 20, and in the morning from Tuesday to Sunday of the Fair, from April 21 to 26. Due to the significant volume of products entering daily, two veterinary inspectors are planned for this control point.
In previous editions, veterinary inspection has proven its effectiveness. In 2025, 655 kilograms of food unfit for consumption were prevented from reaching the stalls. The year 2024 recorded the highest volume of destroyed food, with nearly 1,500 kilograms, while in 2023, more than 4,200 vehicles were inspected.
In addition to entry controls, on-site inspections will be carried out in public stalls and other food establishments within the Real, such as taverns and food preparation stands. These health inspections will extend beyond regular hours to adapt to the fair's activity, and follow-up inspections will be conducted in cases of non-compliance.
The operation also includes an on-call veterinary guard available 24 hours a day, from Monday to Sunday of the Fair, to respond to any foodborne illness alerts or public health incidents. In situations of imminent risk, precautionary measures such as product immobilization or seizure, or even activity suspension, may be applied, and samples will be taken for analysis at the Municipal Laboratory.
