The city of El Puerto has celebrated the closing of the 41st edition of its Municipal Sports Games, an event that gathered nearly 4,900 young athletes between the ages of 5 and 18.

The Ramón Velázquez Sports Pavilion hosted the closing ceremony, where the Councilor for Youth and Sports, José Ignacio González Nieto, congratulated the participants, educational centers, clubs, and technical staff. This program, established as a key initiative for promoting grassroots sports and educational values, was marked by significant participation and excellent organization.
Throughout the school year, the Games involved 19 educational centers and 15 local sports clubs. The regular competitions took place over 11 rounds, from January 27 to June 2026, covering disciplines such as chess, basketball, futsal, judo, table tennis, rugby, and volleyball. A total of 590 matches were played across various municipal and educational facilities.
In addition to the regular competitions, several one-off events were held, including Cross Country, the School Athletics Olympiad, a Rhythmic Gymnastics exhibition, the Chess Olympiad, the Grassroots Football Council Cup, and an Inclusive Futsal day, all of which enhanced participation and the inclusive nature of the initiative.

"The Municipal Sports Games are a magnificent example of how sport strengthens the educational community, promoting healthy lifestyles and creating spaces for meeting, respect, camaraderie, and self-improvement. These initiatives not only develop physical skills but also impart fundamental values such as effort, discipline, coexistence, and teamwork, contributing to the formation of better citizens."

José Ignacio González Nieto · Councilor for Youth and Sports
Trophies were awarded to the champions and runners-up of each sport during the ceremony, along with special distinctions for institutions and individuals who have contributed to the Games. Among those recognized were the CEIP Costa Oeste, Francisco Javier García Zamorano, Juan José Cordero Gallardo, and María del Rosario Roig Álvaro, a municipal worker retiring this year.
