The cruise ship 'Ambition', which was isolated due to a norovirus outbreak with dozens of affected individuals, has docked this morning at the Port of A Coruña. The vessel, arriving from Bordeaux, will remain in the Galician city for ten and a half hours before departing for Gijón.
A team from Sanidad Exterior (Health Exterior) will board the ship to conduct an inspection and determine if passengers and crew can disembark. The ship's arrival, which was not initially planned, prompted a coordination meeting involving various administrations, including the Port Authority of A Coruña, the City Council, the Xunta de Galicia, Maritime Captaincy, and the State Security Forces and Corps.
According to the latest information, as of Friday, there are 30 active cases of norovirus gastroenteritis, out of a total of approximately 1,700 people on board, including passengers and crew. French authorities had initially reported around 80 symptomatic individuals.
The 'Ambition's' entry into Spanish waters has been authorized by Maritime Captaincy as it meets all established requirements. Once docked, routine inspections will be carried out by Health Exterior services to ensure public safety and health, following established protocols. The Government Delegation has conveyed a message of calm, assuring that the situation is being monitored and all necessary measures are being applied to guarantee the safety of passengers and port personnel.
