The Coín City Council has awarded the contract for the construction of a temporary crossing over the Río Grande, expected to be completed by mid-September. This new infrastructure will replace the access bridge to the Valenciana road, which collapsed last January due to heavy rainfall.
The temporary solution involves an inflatable ford, designed to allow vehicular traffic while also accommodating the river's ordinary flow. The project, awarded to the company Eulen for €318,117.29, has an execution period of 68 calendar days. It will be located parallel to the collapsed bridge and will utilize prefabricated reinforced concrete culverts to expedite construction.
The ford's design includes three prefabricated reinforced concrete culverts and will be supplemented with riprap and granular fill. This configuration will allow for the normal flow of the river and safe vehicle passage. In the event of major floods, water can be channeled through the riprap side to minimize damage.
Initial funding for the project will come from the Municipal Budgets, allocated for rural road repairs. The City Council has also applied for subsidies from the Regional Government of Andalusia and the State to cover damages. The contract award to Eulen was also influenced by an extended warranty period of 36 months. This work complements the alternative access already established through the repair of Camino Buenavista.
