The Guardia Civil now has a roundabout in Chiclana. The City Council of Chiclana de la Frontera inaugurated a roundabout on Friday morning at the intersection of the roads to La Barrosa and Sancti Petri, honoring the Benemérita Corps on its 182nd anniversary.
“"This is the best tribute we can have, not only to those who are here now, but also to those who wore the green uniform, who gave their best in life with different means and hours than we can enjoy today. And it is also a tribute to the civil guards who will join us in the future."
The Colonel Chief of the Guardia Civil Command of Cádiz, Luis Martín Velasco, expressed his gratitude to the Chiclana council, stating that "this beautiful memory will be etched in our hearts and minds every time we pass by this roundabout."
The mayor of Chiclana, José María Román, affirmed that the roundabout is dedicated to all members of the corps for "their years of effort in ensuring the safety of the citizens of Chiclana." The mayor stated that the decision to have the Guardia Civil present in the city was "very appropriate" because "the Guardia Civil works for us, for democracy, and for freedom."
Román also recalled the figures of Captains Fuentes and Delgado, "one from Chiclana and another who became one," and thanked the Benemérita for choosing Chiclana to commemorate its 182nd anniversary.
“"Today, this commitment made by the mayor to the Guardia Civil becomes a reality. Therefore, today is an important day for Chiclana and for the Benemérita as it celebrates the 182nd anniversary of its creation, almost coinciding with the City title granted to Chiclana 150 years ago."
The Government Sub-delegate in Cádiz, Blanca Flores, also present at the ceremony, highlighted the "commitment and work of the Guardia Civil in security matters," always "at the service of the citizens." She concluded, "This tribute from the City Council of Chiclana values the work of the Guardia Civil in the city."
José María Román and Luis Martín Velasco unveiled the commemorative monument featuring the Guardia Civil emblem, to the applause of the public, members of the municipal corporation, and members of the Corps. The mayor also presented a symbolic plaque to the Colonel Chief of the Guardia Civil Command of Cádiz.
