Temperatures in Andalusia will continue to rise progressively throughout the week, reaching values above 40 degrees Celsius from this Wednesday until Sunday, thus meeting the criteria for a new heatwave.
Currently, orange level alerts for high temperatures remain in effect for Córdoba, Granada, and Jaén, and yellow level in Sevilla. These alerts are due to a ridge of high pressure that will strengthen in the coming days, along with high atmospheric pressure and extended hours of sunshine. The forecast indicates that these alert levels will change throughout the week, expanding on Thursday to Cádiz, Huelva, and Málaga (yellow), and reducing on Friday to orange for Córdoba and Jaén, while Cádiz, Sevilla, and Granada will remain at yellow.
According to Aemet's forecasts, Saturday will be the peak day of the heatwave, when up to 43 degrees Celsius will be recorded in certain parts of Andalusia, which are already experiencing extreme temperatures.
The areas most affected by the heat will be the campiña of Córdoba, the Genil River Basin (Granada), and the Jaén regions of Morena and Condado, Cazorla and Segura, as well as the Guadalquivir Valley in Jaén. These areas will be on orange alert, with temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius between 1:00 PM and 9:00 PM.
The campiña of Seville will remain at yellow level during the same hours, with maximums of 39 degrees Celsius that could locally rise by one more degree.
Among the municipalities expected to register the highest temperatures this weekend are Burguillos (Seville) and Marchena (Seville) with 41-42 degrees; Seville capital, Isla Mayor (Seville), Utrera (Seville), Morón de la Frontera (Seville), Écija (Seville), Arcos de la Frontera (Cádiz), Almódovar del Río (Córdoba), Palma del Río (Córdoba), Córdoba capital, Montoro (Córdoba), Lora del Río (Córdoba), El Carpio (Córdoba), Puente Genil (Córdoba), Andújar (Jaén), Fuentes de Andalucía (Seville), Arahal (Seville), Lantejuela (Seville), Gibraleón (Huelva), Linares (Jaén), Almonte (Huelva), Alcalá de los Gazules (Cádiz), Montilla (Córdoba), and Loja (Granada), all with forecasts ranging from 41 to 43 degrees Celsius.
Additionally, the Cordoban areas of Sierra and Pedroches and the Subbética cordobesa, along with Guadix and Baza (Granada), will maintain yellow alert for maximum temperatures that could reach up to 38 degrees Celsius.
Aemet has noted that the climatological summer of 2026 is proving to be exceptionally warm in the community, with daily temperatures consistently well above normal records.
