Andalusia faces a day of intense heat this Friday, June 12, with the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) activating weather alerts in several of its provinces. Maximum temperatures could climb to 40ºC in the Guadalquivir valley, while wind will also be a significant factor in coastal areas.
Yellow heat alerts are concentrated in parts of Seville, Córdoba, and Jaén, and will be in effect from midday until sunset. The most affected areas include the Cordoban countryside, the Jaén region of Morena y Condado, and the Guadalquivir valley in Jaén, where temperatures are expected to reach up to 40ºC. In the Sevillian countryside, alerts remain with highs of 38ºC.
Concurrently, the coast and interior of Cádiz, as well as the Strait area, are under an orange alert for strong wind gusts that could reach 90 km/h. Other areas such as Grazalema, the southern Sierra of Seville, and the Antequera and Ronda regions of Malaga will be on yellow alert with gusts of up to 70 km/h. The coasts of Granada and Almería will also experience milder wind alerts.
This weather scenario anticipates a change starting Sunday, June 14, with the arrival of a Cut-off Low (DANA) to the Iberian Peninsula. Locally stormy showers are expected, particularly in the eastern interior of Andalusia, with a 100% chance of rain in municipalities like Trevélez or Guadix (Granada).
