The Municipal Library Network of the Almería City Council has launched its activity schedule for July and August, aiming to establish these spaces as hubs for family encounters, learning, creativity, and leisure. The program will be decentralized across the Central Library José María Artero and the libraries in Los Ángeles, El Alquián, La Chanca, and Cabo de Gata.
During the presentation, the Councilor Delegate for Culture, Education, and Traditions, Diego Cruz, emphasized that libraries will continue to host activities throughout the summer, similar to other municipal cultural venues. Drawing a literary parallel, Cruz stated, "libraries are also for the summer," highlighting their role as "living spaces" where imagination, play, art, and discovery coexist with books.
The offerings include baby story sessions for the youngest children on July 7th and August 4th at the Central Library, featuring tales like 'The Three Little Pigs' and 'Moa la boa'. Additionally, storytelling sessions will take place in various network libraries throughout July and August, some with guest authors to introduce children to the creative process of storytelling.
The summer program also features creative workshops. 'Painting Fans' is scheduled across several libraries from July 9th to August 12th, while the 'Designing Spinning Tops' workshop is planned for August 19th at the Central Library.
As a preview of the September program, an open talk on emotional well-being and anxiety, led by Carmen Moreno Rodríguez, was announced for September 9th at the Central Library José María Artero. This initiative underscores the libraries' commitment to fostering learning and personal growth.
All activities are free and open to the public until capacity is reached. Advance reservations, where required, can be made via the website bibliotecaspublicas.es/almeria, which also provides the full, updated program.
The Central Library José María Artero recently welcomed a special visit from a team of library professionals from the National Library of Bulgaria and the library of Veliko Tárnovo, as part of an Erasmus Plus project.
The ongoing project ‘Between Walls and Memories’ was also highlighted. This initiative aims to recover and preserve the historical memory of the Central Library and the legacy of architect Guillermo Langle. The City Council encourages citizens to contribute photographs, documents, and personal memories for a future permanent exhibition.
Councilor Diego Cruz expressed gratitude to the Municipal Library Network team, "whose efforts allow us to continue consolidating these spaces as open, innovative, and accessible cultural landmarks," and invited the residents of Almería to enjoy the summer programming.
