Sevilla will have an unexpected returnee for the 2026/27 season: Alfon. The player, previously signed by the Andalusian club as a free agent from Celta de Vigo, is returning to the Nervión squad after his loan spell at Villarreal, where he did not manage to make the desired impression.
The Castellón-based club, set to compete in the Champions League for the second consecutive year, has informed Alfon that they will not pay the seven million euro release clause. Consequently, the winger must rejoin Nervión, where he has a contract for two more seasons. Alfon is expected to participate in pre-season training under Luis García Plaza, a coach he does not know, unlike his previous stint at Sevilla, which was hampered by injuries and Almeyda at the helm. In his first half-season with Sevilla, he played 13 matches and scored two goals in the Copa del Rey.
The departure of the Albacete-born player was part of a maneuver by the Sevillista entity, which needed to release Marcao to register Neal Maupay. Now, Alfon faces his second attempt at the club, aiming to earn a place, although his future at Nervión is not guaranteed.
During his brief spell at Villarreal, the 27-year-old winger arrived injured at the end of January, missing the first month of competition. Under Marcelino's management, he failed to stand out or show the level previously displayed at Celta, playing a secondary role. He participated in 10 matches, seven of them as a substitute, and scored one goal against Athletic.
