The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued a special heatwave warning, in effect since Sunday and estimated to last until next Wednesday, the 24th. According to the official statement, temperatures could reach 44 ºC in the middle-upper course of the Guadalquivir Valley, particularly in the area between the Cordoban capital and Villa del Río.
These forecasted values are considered very extreme and pose an extraordinary risk to the population. If confirmed, a red alert would be issued for the Cordoban Guadalquivir. The first readings above 40 ºC this year occurred last Saturday, with highs of 40.6 ºC at the official weather station at Córdoba airport, 40.4 ºC in Fuente Palmera, and 41.1 ºC in Vega Armijo (Montoro).
Minimum temperatures have also seen a notable increase, marking the first tropical nights of the year with readings equal to or above 20 ºC. In the Subbética region of Córdoba, Sunday morning recorded nearly 24 ºC. Nights in the city of Córdoba have been described as torrid, with amateur private stations exceeding 26 ºC due to the urban heat island effect.
With one week left in June, the average maximum temperature at Córdoba airport stands at 36.5 ºC. If this thermal anomaly persists, this month's data could approach the figures recorded in 2025, when the June average maximum temperature finished at 37.7 ºC.
