After nearly a decade portraying Berlin, the actor has decided to leave the character, coinciding with the confirmation of the successful spin-off's conclusion. The second season, titled Berlin and the Lady with the Ermine, brings to an end a cycle that has left a significant mark on Spanish fiction globally.
The reasons for this decision are personal, as the actor himself has confessed. Following the filming of the new episodes in 2025, he experienced an emotional "clack," influenced by physical exhaustion and the impact of his long-time agent's passing. Despite advice received, the performer has chosen to conclude this stage at the peak of his success to explore new artistic facets.
“"I need to close this phase to live other lives and keep my artistic commitment intact."
In this final installment, the plot moves to Seville, where the gang plans a heist with a personal revenge component targeting the Dukes of Málaga, played by José Luis García-Pérez and Marta Nieto. The series also introduces Inma Cuesta as a new romantic interest for the protagonist, promising to tie up loose ends connecting to the original series' timeline.
The series creators have respected the actor's decision, who bids farewell gratefully to the character that, in his own words, made him "fly so much." Before his international fame, the actor's career was forged in theater and Galician television, excelling in productions like Rías Baixas or Padre Casares, and solidifying his ability to portray complex villains in Gran Hotel.
International recognition arrived in 2017 with the premiere of La casa de papel, where his portrayal of Andrés de Fonollosa, alias Berlin, was so impactful that the character was kept alive through flashbacks. At 54 years old, the actor is preparing for new challenges, seeking to move away from the "noise" of massive fame and follow his artistic intuition.
