The mayor of Ronda, Mari Paz Fernández, has announced the upcoming creation of a new parking facility in the city center. It will be located on a 7,250 square meter plot, currently disused, situated next to the train station.
The agreement has been reached with Adif, the owner of the land. The new parking lot will offer a total of 207 spaces, including six reserved for people with reduced mobility.
Fernández, accompanied by the Urban Planning Councilor, Jesús Vázquez, emphasized that this initiative responds to the need for parking spaces and citizen demand. Furthermore, it aims to enhance the value of this currently degraded area and eliminate an urban void.
The investment will amount to nearly 700,000 euros, financed by the Provincial Council of Málaga. The projected execution period is six months. Works will include cleaning and conditioning the site, removing dilapidated structures and remnants of old railway constructions, improving basic urban infrastructure, and renovating the sidewalk of Avenida de Andalucía. A new safety enclosure will also be installed along the train tracks.
The project includes the creation of new internal roads and pedestrian pathways within the parking lot, as well as new lighting, sewage and rainwater systems, and green and gardening areas. The renovation of an existing building on the plot will be handled in a separate project.
Fernández stated that the wall on Córdoba street will be removed and a climate refuge zone will be created, thus addressing the parking problem and improving urban mobility through vehicle rotation.
