The councilors for Sports and Tourism, Nardi Crespo and Ángel Martínez, have presented the 4th Mountain, Canyoning, and Speleology Days in Ronda. The event, scheduled for September 11, 12, and 13, will bring together over 100 enthusiasts and has become established thanks to the city's natural environment for adventure sports.
Nardi Crespo emphasized the event's importance, given Ronda's tradition in mountaineering and speleology, and the opportunity to highlight its natural surroundings. Ángel Martínez, head of Turismo de Ronda, S. A., stressed the significance of adventure tourism for the city and the support for initiatives like these, which showcase the sports program and provide aid to elite athletes.
The program for the Days has increased capacity to 150 participants, which are nearly fully booked. Participants require preparation and experience due to the inherent risks involved. The Sports Councilor expressed satisfaction with the event's reception and the support from around thirty entities, including Turismo de Ronda.
The Days will commence on September 11 at 12:00 PM with a rescue simulation conducted by the Andalucía Emergency Agency (EMA 112), National Police, Local Police, Civil Protection, Andalusian Health Service (SAS), and firefighters from the Provincial Firefighters Consortium (CPB) of Málaga. The simulation will take place in the Tajo gorge.
From 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, a free zip line will be open to the general public, running from the Mirador de Aldehuela to the Jardines de Cuenca, with collaboration from Pangea and SierrAventura. At 5:00 PM, participants will be received at the Convento, followed by open lectures and talks (prioritizing registered attendees) on speleology, canyoning, and mountaineering.
Two exhibitions will be presented at the Convento: a photography display of caves and sinkholes from across Andalucía, provided by the Andalusian Speleology Federation, and another on the Cueva de la Pileta, showcasing rarely visited parts of the cave mapped in three dimensions. The collaboration of Juan Hoyos was particularly acknowledged.
Saturday and Sunday will feature activities such as climbing, caving, canyoning, and hiking for registered participants. A new addition includes climbing for children, supported by Pasos Largos. Talks will cover topics like robotics in caves and the newly discovered Nevero-Aire connection in Tolox, with the presence of its discoverers.
