The municipality of Vícar has actively participated in the II Mobility Conference, organized by the University of Almería as part of the European Mobility Week. Vanesa Lidueña, a local councilor and provincial deputy, represented the town in the round table discussion titled ‘Large cities on the move’.
During the discussion, Lidueña presented the demographic and economic challenges facing mobility for citizens in the Poniente Almeriense region, and explored the implementation of sustainable alternatives to connect inhabitants. Representatives from the municipalities of Almería and Roquetas also joined the debate, forming what was termed ‘La Línea del Mar’ (The Sea Line) at these Mobility Conference sessions.
The event, held throughout the morning and afternoon of Monday, September 21st, focused on ‘Connecting Almería: mobility for a moving territory’. The program, designed by the Higher School of Engineering with support from the Vice-Rectorate for Sustainability, Health, and Sports at UAL, comprehensively addressed the province's mobility and connectivity, including new inter-territorial networks, more environmentally friendly transport systems, universal accessibility from both economic and disability perspectives, and how the quality of these connections directly influences the prosperity of Almería's residents.
Vícar's participation was fundamental in debating these issues, given its strategic location in the heart of the Poniente Almeriense, situated at the foot of the Sierra de Gádor and facing the Mediterranean Sea. Furthermore, its experience and management of a constantly growing population underpin the significance of its contributions during the conference.
