The municipality of Vícar has formally joined the agreement establishing the Ibero-American Chair of Trovo and Oral Improvisation Poetry, promoted by the University of Granada and the Abuxarra Cultural Association. The signing, held this morning, represents a significant step forward for the preservation and dissemination of this ancestral cultural expression.
This pioneering agreement lays the foundation for the future creation of the Municipal Trovo School in Vícar, the first of its kind in Spain, complementing the one planned in Cádiar (Granada). Mayor Antonio Bonilla highlighted the importance of valuing trovo and improvised oral poetry, cultural forms at risk of disappearing.
Bonilla expressed his pride in being part of this initiative, which continues a cultural legacy kept alive for 43 years. He emphasized the cooperation between institutions such as the Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Alpujarra de la Sierra and the provincial councils of Almería and Granada, working together to protect this heritage.
The mayor shared his personal connection to trovo, originating from the Contraviesa region, and how the figure of master Miguel García Candiota marked his childhood. He noted that this sentiment has been maintained in Vícar, home to many from the Alpujarra, driving support for local culture and its transmission to future generations.
The creation of the Municipal Trovo School in Vícar will be supported by an annual budget of 10,000 euros. The objective is to establish at least four or five trovo schools in Granada and Almería within the next two years, promoting the study and dissemination of improvised poetry.
