Directed by José Troncoso, Nieto leads a cast that includes Claudio Tolcachir, Ana Labordeta, and Avelino Piedad, with Lola Barroso on piano. The theatrical production, presented last Saturday, stands out for the excellent performances of its actors, especially that of Pepón Nieto.
La pasión infinita tells the story of José Antonio, a man whose life is spent in a salted fish factory, but whose true passion is theater. Despite lacking talent, according to his surroundings and his wife Asunción, José Antonio pursues his dream with an almost obsessive vocation.
The plot unfolds when José Antonio discovers an advertisement seeking actors “without experience.” This opportunity prompts him to embark on an adventure that will jeopardize his marriage, job stability, and family life. Against all odds, he is selected for the role of a lifetime, although his enthusiasm will clash with the harsh reality of the stage.
“"I have always liked to use my work to put a magnifying glass on the 'small tragedies' of ordinary people. To turn into tragic heroes people who are not usually 'exemplary protagonists' due to the apparent irrelevance of their lives."
Pepón Nieto's performance has been praised for his ability to connect with the audience, radiating emotion and eliciting smiles throughout the play. The cast is completed by Claudio Tolcachir, who plays a theater director, and Ana Labordeta in the role of Asunción, José Antonio's wife. Avelino Piedad, as the assistant director, provides a realistic counterpoint to the protagonists' dreams.
