The alleged perpetrator of the massacre that occurred last Monday night in the El Canalillo neighborhood of El Ejido has been handed over to judicial authorities. The 25-year-old individual faces serious charges following a brutal armed attack that resulted in the death of his biological mother and stepfather, and left four people critically injured, including two infants.
The investigation, conducted by the Organic Judicial Police Unit of the Almería Command, charges the detainee with attempted murder and homicide within the context of gender violence, stemming from the attack on his partner or ex-partner. The charges extend to double consummated murder within the scope of domestic violence for the deaths of his parents, and attempted murder due to domestic violence against his own seven-month-old son, who remains in pediatric intensive care.
Furthermore, the detainee must answer for a triple attempted murder for indiscriminately firing at three collateral victims: a 19-year-old neighbor and her 18-month-old daughter, and a 60-year-old immigrant man shot in the head. An additional charge of illegal possession of weapons has been added, as he did not possess a valid license.
The individual was captured early Tuesday morning following an extensive police cordon. The mayor of El Ejido, Francisco Góngora, stated that the suspect has at least 16 prior arrests for possession of bladed weapons and narcotics, and warned of the young man's potential severe schizophrenia, a factor that will be evaluated by the court.
