The Governing Board of the Provincial Council of Almería has approved the contract award for the expansion of the cemetery of El Marchal de Antón López, located in the municipality of Enix. The project has a budget of 143,984.76 euros and is part of the Provincial institution's Cemeteries Plan 2024-2026.
This investment will provide the cemetery with 30 new niches, 10 ossuaries, and 24 columbaria for cremated remains. The initiative is part of a broader program by the Provincial Council, the Cemeteries Plan 2024-2026, which allocates over 5 million euros to the adaptation and modernization of funeral facilities across the province.
According to the Deputy of Sustainability, José Juan Martínez, the project is co-financed by the Provincial Council (85%) and the City Council (15%), aiming to adapt the cemetery to future needs. The mayor of Enix, Álvaro Izquierdo, highlighted that the project will enhance the cemetery's capacity and accessibility, with an execution period of 3 months.
The technical project includes the installation of prefabricated concrete structures. Due to the slope of the current land plot, earthmoving and reinforced concrete retaining walls will be necessary. Pedestrian walkways will be paved with stamped concrete resembling cobblestones, and gravel will be spread in other areas. The main entrance will feature a new 3-meter wide double-leaf gate, and solar lighting will be installed for the entrance.
