The August Fair in Archidona officially begins with its unique Night Pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of the Virgen de Gracia, a tradition declared of Provincial Tourist Singularity. This event, which gathers more than 20,000 people, takes place on the night of August 14th to 15th.
The pilgrimage, starting on the evening of August 14th, is characterized by its nocturnal journey by candlelight and lanterns. Participants walk approximately two kilometers from the Paseo de la Victoria to the sanctuary, creating a unique atmosphere in the province of Málaga.
Unlike other pilgrimages, Archidona does not process any image. Pilgrims head to the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de Gracia to visit the patron saint. This celebration is one of only two night pilgrimages in Andalusia, alongside the one in Monachil, Granada.
In the days leading up to and following August 15th, the day of the Virgen de Gracia, the municipality comes alive with the traditional bell 'Repiques' and 'Luminarias' on facades, intertwining the religious and festive.
The August Fair program includes various events from August 14th to 18th, featuring masses, lighting ceremonies, float parades, concerts by artists such as El Callejón, La Húngara, Celtas Cortos, and orchestras, as well as children's activities and tastings.
