The exhibition ‘Litoral cien años. Generación del 27-Generación Litoral’ is being presented at the MVA Cultural Center in Málaga, where it will be on display from April 23 to June 26. This initiative, organized by the Málaga Provincial Council, pays tribute to the trajectory of the Málaga-based publication that served as a platform for young creators of its time.
The exhibition traces the history of Litoral Magazine, founded in 1926 at the Imprenta Sur de Málaga by poets Emilio Prados and Manuel Altolaguirre. The publication became a benchmark for the Generation of '27, a group that the exhibition reclaims as the 'Litoral Generation'. A century later, the magazine continues to be published, maintaining its pursuit of excellence in the national literary scene.
“"The magazine promoted by the Málaga poets Emilio Prados, Manuel Altolaguirre, and José María Hinojosa has been considered the most emblematic of all those linked to the Generation of '27."
As part of the celebration, a hundred contemporary artists have created works in homage to the iconic fish from Litoral's first cover. The exhibition also features artist Aixa Portero, who presents a large sculptural and audiovisual installation titled 'Ola Litoral. Cien años de cultura en luz' (Litoral Wave. One Hundred Years of Culture in Light), conceived as a metaphor for the magazine's historical journey.
The Málaga Provincial Council has highlighted the cultural footprint of this group in the province, exemplified by the creation of the Generación del 27 Cultural Center in 1984. This institution is the only one in Spain that preserves the legacy of the Silver Age and keeps the Imprenta Sur, the birthplace of Litoral Magazine, active. Furthermore, the provincial institution seeks to establish a reference space in the rehabilitated Palacio de Valdeflores so that Málaga can play a central role in the national commemoration of the Generation of '27's centenary.
