Following a May marked by unusually low temperatures, Malaga will experience a drastic change in weather with the arrival of intense and lasting heat. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has warned of an episode of high temperatures for this time of year across much of the country, with forecasts placing some days among the warmest recorded for late May.
In the Malagan capital and the Costa del Sol, thermometers will show highs close to 29 degrees, creating a summer-like atmosphere. However, the province's interior will be the most affected, with towns like Coín, known as the "Guadalhorce oven," registering up to 30 degrees, a figure that could increase throughout the week. Similar values are also expected in Antequera and Ronda, where temperatures will rise to around 28 degrees.
The heat will not only be felt during the day, as Aemet also forecasts tropical nights on the coast and inland, with minimum temperatures ranging between 16 and 19 degrees. This anomalous situation is expected to persist at least until the middle of next week.
Despite the intensity and persistence of the episode, the meteorological agency has clarified that it cannot be described as a "heatwave in the strict sense" as even higher temperatures would be required. Nevertheless, both daytime and nighttime temperatures will be "typical of mid-summer" in many parts of the country.
