Russian pianist Elizaveta Ukrainskaia has been crowned the winner of the III International Piano Competition City of Málaga, with the final taking place yesterday at the Teatro Cervantes.

Elizaveta Ukrainskaia, born in Germany and of Russian origin, took first prize in the competition held in the capital of the Costa del Sol since June 19th. In the final round, the international jury placed her ahead of Ukraine's Roman Fediurko, who secured second place, and Japan's Shion Ota, who received third prize.
The event brought together twenty-four pianists from twelve nationalities. Participants navigated three elimination rounds, including solo recitals and a chamber music semifinal with the Gerhard Quartet. The six semifinalists performed a quintet, from which emerged the three finalists who appeared at the Teatro Cervantes, accompanied by the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Serguéi Smbatyan.
Japan's Shion Ota performed Sergei Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto, offering an intimate interpretation focused on phrasing. Her style, described as whispering and meditative, earned her the award for best chamber music performance for her Brahms Quintet.
Elizaveta Ukrainskaia performed Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto, delivering a reading of great intensity and romantic flair, with a broad and vibrant sound. Her virtuosity in the first movement's cadenza and strong expressive personality ultimately swayed the jury's decision in her favor.
Roman Fediurko concluded the final with Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto, presenting a version with immense sonic power and broad tonal range. His performance was recognized by both the Young Jury and the Audience Award.
The awards ceremony took place at the Teatro Cervantes, attended by authorities including the mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, who presented the First Prize to Ukrainskaia. This award includes 20,000 euros, a diploma, a trophy, and a concert tour.
The competition, created and directed by pianist Pablo Amorós, aims for annual continuity with the establishment of a foundation to promote music and organize year-round activities. An upcoming performance by Arcadi Volodos on October 12th has already been announced.
