This center, the institution's first outside Belgium, will operate in coordination with its main headquarters in Leuven and is set to become the largest microelectronics research facility. The initiative, driven by the Spanish Society for Technological Transformation (SETT), aims to advance the research and development of advanced semiconductors.
The contract covers the comprehensive development of a specialized industrial complex, spanning approximately 45,000 square meters of built area. This space will house research areas, pilot production facilities, and technical services for the manufacturing of 300-millimeter wafers, reinforcing the Málaga Tech Park as a key player in the European technological ecosystem.
Key features include the construction of a state-of-the-art cleanroom of nearly 2,000 square meters, designated as the complex's core. It will also include support buildings, R&D spaces, control areas, and general services necessary for the center's operation. The project also encompasses the complete urbanization of the surrounding area, with internal roads, access points, pedestrian zones, parking, and landscaped areas.
Situated in the expansion of the Málaga Tech Park, one of Spain's leading technology hubs, construction is expected to continue until 2028. The center's design emphasizes sustainability and energy efficiency, with the goal of achieving LEED Gold certification.
