Málaga begins the month of June sweltering under the heat, with the activation of the year's first weather alert. The Aemet has issued yellow warnings for high temperatures in the Costa del Sol, Guadalhorce, and Axarquía, in effect between 2:00 PM and 7:59 PM this Tuesday.
Forecasts indicate highs of up to 38°C, particularly sharp on the Mediterranean coast due to westerly winds, known as terral. According to Jesús Riesco, director of the Aemet Meteorological Center in Málaga, these temperatures are above normal for this time of year.
Although Wednesday is expected to see a slight decrease with highs of 30°C, the relief will be temporary. On Thursday, the terral wind will return, potentially reaching 35°C in the capital. In inland areas of the province like Coín, highs of 38°C are expected, and in Vélez-Málaga, up to 37°C, with lows around 21°C.
The weekend will bring a respite. Starting Friday, temperatures will begin to drop significantly, settling around 31°C on Friday and falling to 28°C on Saturday and Sunday. The Aemet attributes this change to the weakening of a warm ridge.
Areas such as Antequera and Ronda are outside the yellow alert zone but will not escape the intense heat. Antequera expects highs of 34°C, and in the Serranía de Ronda, temperatures will hover around 30°C.
The Aemet's summer forecast for June, July, and August indicates a 50% probability that the quarter will be warmer than normal in Andalusia.
