Quantum Labs, a spin-off from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has announced its intention to produce all components for its quantum computers in Málaga from 2027, marking a significant investment in the region.

This ambitious project aims to transform the Costa del Sol capital into a central hub for quantum technology manufacturing in Spain. The initiative includes the local production of quantum chips, cryogenic cooling systems, and the complete assembly of the equipment, covering the entire production process.
The plan will unfold in two phases. The first will begin in the final quarter of this year with the installation of an Origin Wuokong 317-qubit quantum processor at the Picasso Supercomputing and Bioinformatics Center of the University of Málaga, scheduled for October. The second phase, contingent on performance validation, will culminate in the establishment of quantum chip and cooling system manufacturing in the city.

"From the silicon wafer to the assembly of the cryogenic equipment."

a company representative
The company, which originated as a spin-off from the Key Laboratory of Quantum Computing at the University of Science and Technology of China, is noted for its high degree of self-sufficiency. It controls every link in the value chain, from chip design to management software, giving it a competitive edge in the sector.
The quantum computer to be installed in Málaga will not only be a technological showcase but will also be available to third parties, including universities, technology centers, and businesses. It will be offered under a computing capacity leasing model, with remote access via a cloud platform and guaranteed data sovereignty, as servers and files will remain physically in the Málaga supercomputer.
In addition to hardware, Quantum Labs brings a robust portfolio of industrial applications, particularly in quantum cybersecurity. The firm holds 70 patents granted in 2025, has 1,200 companies with its systems implemented in China, and 100,000 users from operators like China Mobile and China Unicom using SIM cards equipped with its commercial quantum chip. The company will also launch a co-investment program for startups with proposals in quantum industrial verticals, aiming to support 20 to 30 initiatives annually.
