Although all vehicles, regardless of environmental label, can currently circulate within the ZBE during this initial year, the requirement for vehicles to be correctly registered in Málaga has resulted in numerous penalties. This particularly affects residents who, despite having no access restrictions, have been fined for not having their vehicle registered in the city.
To avoid these fines, drivers have the option to update their vehicle's registration with the Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT). This process is crucial, as the current period concludes on November 29, 2026, after which access conditions to the ZBE will become stricter.
According to City Council guidelines, to change a vehicle's registration, the owner must be registered as a resident in Málaga. The application is processed via the DGT website and requires a valid identification document. Applications from non-residents or legal entities will not be accepted.
From November 2026, vehicles without an environmental label will only be able to access the ZBE if they are registered in Málaga. A year later, in the third year of the regulation's implementation, this restriction will also apply to vehicles with a B label. Only vehicles with CERO, ECO, or C labels will be able to circulate without this registration condition.
