This new stage of work focuses on key locations such as Marbella, San Pedro de Alcántara, Benalmádena, and Torre del Mar. Interventions include sand movement to correct the shifting between Cabopino and Las Chapas, as well as from El Cable beach to Fontanilla in Marbella. In San Pedro de Alcántara, efforts will concentrate on the Guadalmina area.
In Benalmádena, work will be carried out on Malapesquera beach, while in Torre del Mar (Vélez-Málaga), actions will target the area near the mouth of the Vélez River. It is important to note that these works, agreed upon with local councils, will require the temporary closure of the affected beaches to the public for the duration of the operations.
The Demarcation of Coasts Andalucía Mediterráneo had already completed the first phase of these emergency works by the end of March. This initial phase covered beaches such as Peñoncillo in Torrox, Cala del Moral in Rincón de la Victoria, El Bajondillo in Torremolinos, and Santa Amalia in Fuengirola, where sand replenishment and reprofiling were performed. In Fuengirola, foundations exposed after the demolition of the Hotel Mare Nostrum over 30 years ago were also removed. Reprofiling and sand replenishment works were also concluded on El Bombo beach in Mijas.
The Spanish Government is allocating 1.3 million euros to these urgent actions for the restoration of Málaga's beaches. Additionally, Royal Decree-Law 5/2026 includes an investment package of 2 billion euros in aid to municipalities for the repair of infrastructure and municipal services on beaches, demonstrating a strong commitment to coastal recovery.
