In Málaga, the Popular Party has established a solid base of support, consolidating its presence in most local governments. This hegemony is reflected in its control of over fifty city councils, with nearly forty of them holding absolute majorities. The capital, Málaga, has been governed by the Popular Party for three decades, and they also control the Provincial Council and the main municipal associations.
The PP's candidacy for this election is led by Juanma Moreno, the Andalusian president, and includes key figures from his government such as the spokesperson and Minister of Economy, Carolina España, the Minister of Tourism, Arturo Bernal, and the Minister of Employment, Rocío Blanco. Party strategists and notable recruits, such as a former world basketball champion, who seeks to contribute through the values of sport, are also joining.
“"I come to contribute to Juanma Moreno from the values of sport."
Meanwhile, the PSOE in Málaga is undergoing a period of internal fragmentation, with various factions competing for positions. The situation has led to a reshuffling of leaderships, where a spokesperson has seen their influence within the party diminish, being relegated to an opposition role in the city council. The electoral lists could signify a new change in their political career, with the possibility of resigning their municipal post if elected as an Andalusian parliamentarian.
At the extremes of the political spectrum, Vox aims to surpass the two seats obtained in 2022, facing the strong figure of Juanma Moreno. Immigration is emerging as one of the key themes of their campaign. On the other hand, the coalition of Izquierda Unida and Podemos seeks to maintain its representation, relying on the support of the social base of the old Izquierda Unida and the volatile vote of the discontented.
