The direct high-speed train service linking Málaga and Madrid will recommence on April 30 at 12:00 PM. This resumption comes almost three months after a retaining wall collapsed onto the tracks near Álora, disrupting circulation due to severe storms in February. The restoration of this route is crucial for the upcoming May holiday weekend.
Travel times between both capitals will be reduced to approximately three hours, an hour less compared to Renfe's alternative plan, which involved a bus segment between Málaga and Antequera. Companies like Iryo and Ouigo also suspended their services during this period. Although the line will reopen with fewer frequencies than usual, ticket prices have been announced.
For Thursday, April 30, the eve of Labor Day, frequencies are limited to midday. The most economical Renfe ticket is for the 12:50 PM train, costing 53.30 euros, while the 4:48 PM ticket is 62.15 euros. On May 1, frequencies gradually increase, with trains from María Zambrano station starting from 45 euros, and the 4:48 PM ticket dropping to 26.65 euros.
Throughout the following week, even more competitive fares can be found. For instance, on Wednesday, May 6, a ticket at 12:50 PM costs 22.20 euros, and on Friday, May 8, the 5:37 AM train is offered for 17.75 euros. Meanwhile, Iryo will operate from Málaga with prices starting from 24.62 euros on April 30, and Ouigo will offer tickets from 19 euros for travel to Madrid.
The intervention to restore the connection was complex, involving the removal of 200,000 cubic meters of earth and the stabilization of a nearby high-voltage tower. The work mobilized 25 machines and 75 people in continuous shifts, ensuring safety and the prompt recovery of the service.
