The investment will focus on installing new urban furniture, such as accessible chairs, bins, pergolas, and fountains, as well as reinforcing lighting in these areas. The main characteristic of these works is their gender focus, seeking to create an urban environment that avoids dark spots and dead ends to prevent violence and increase women's safety.
According to the UN's UN-Habitat Guide for Women, public works with a gender perspective should not only aim for a more friendly and safer city for women but also include accessible pedestrian networks for strollers and the elderly, fostering work-life balance and community life.
The Public Sector Procurement Platform has published the tender for the execution of these works, with a bidding amount of €651,057.19. Interested companies have until August 31st to submit their offers. The execution period for the works will be eight months.
26 actions will be carried out in various points of the neighborhoods, including squares like Dolores Márquez and Bailén, and streets such as Martinete, Llano de La Trinidad, Imagen, Priego, San Pablo, Jara, Jaboneros, Mármoles, Carril y barrera de La Trinidad, among others.
The planned works include the creation of meeting and rest spaces with urban furniture, the provision of accessible chairs, bins, pergolas, and bike racks. They also involve reinforcing lighting by replacing or repairing existing fixtures, and signage to identify access points. Traditional children's games will be incorporated, along with a mural designed by students from the Fine Arts Degree at the University of Málaga (UMA), and the painting of fences on undeveloped plots. Trees, gardens, and shaded areas with pergolas will be added, and pedestrian crossings will be improved, including lowered and raised crossings. The project design followed a process of citizen participation.
